After Warren pulled the plug on FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND in 1983 (which lasted an amazing 191 issues), Forrest J Ackerman wasn't done publishing monster magazines.With a cover date of February, 1985 (the indicia indicates December, 1984), and keeping the old FM logo, Ackerman landed a new publisher to continue his love of monsters.
MONSTERLAND is a bit of a mishmash of using both old (the scant few that there are) and new horror films, and somehow, it seemed a bit off. Still, there's plenty here to immerse the reader if they liked the 80's stuff. It also suffers from mediocre layouts and lettering. This could have been saved by the skilled eye of FM alumnus Harry Chester.
Unfortunately, Ackerman's stint with the 'zine only lasted for 9 issues, and he departed after having disagreements with publisher Schuster (maybe over the content?).
