I am very much looking forward to the reprints of DEN coming later this summer from Dark Horse. I tried to explain the art and the series to a friend who is an artist and she was fascinated by Corben's interpretation of the human form. It's singular to say the least. No one ever drew like Corben. That's saying something.
ReplyDeleteCorben devised a singular technique of color separation over black and white xeroxed art that was created all by hand-made overlays. This made his work stand out from the flat separations of other color comics. He also minimized the use of using black for shadows, instead relying on color to create the effect with shading. A true original.

ReplyDeleteAnother fine effort from the master. Since this post, Dark Horse published a deluxe edition of the short series.
