One thing you can say about the Charlton line of monster magazines is they were not clones of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND. Such as they were, they had their own unique style and format, and once in a while, they had an okay article or two.

However, HORROR MONSTERS and MAD MONSTERS, both which lasted for only 10 issues, were clones of each other, and besides the title, were pretty much indistinguishable from the other. The content was definitely slanted for humor (just check out the staff listed above) and every opportunity was seized upon to make a pun out of whatever material was being presented. A perfect example in this issue of HORROR MONSTERS is the feature entitled, "A Horror Monsters Travelogue", subtitled, "A Journey Into the Interior" and written by "A. Hunter". The description, "Through the Upper Intestine With Camera and Baking Soda" is a hook if I ever read one. There is also a nice little piece on Peter Lorre, and two photo-captioned film stories from TALES OF TERROR and the weird German low-brow classic, THE HEAD. Far from high art, folks, but definitely a lot of fun!
