CHOICE CUTS: FAMOUS MONSTERS NO. 28 (PART 1)
James Warren had an amusing habit of emblazing numerous covers of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND with the phrase, "BEST ISSUE EVER!". Well, he was right -- many issues of his world-famous monster 'zine were good enough to be called "The Best".
Today marks the beginning of a new series showing some of the choicest cuts from the long run of FM. We'll start off with issue #28 from May 1964 which features a ton of cool monster stuff such as articles on THE MANSTER, the strange Torticola Frankenstein, the memorable "Unmasking the Phantom" photo sequence, CHILDREN OF THE DAMNED, and a ISLAND OF LOST SOULS Filmbook (don't worry: issue #29 with the conclusion will be the next installment). Plus, you get treated to 30 pages of ads!
Some may remember that at one time FM offered a free issue to readers. After waiting what seemed like forever, I received this copy in a manila envelope. It remains in my collection to this day, over 50 years later!

I think this issue may actually be the best issue ever! It’s definitely on my top ten favorites list.
