THE CREATURE FEATURED

This item is sold as a hand-painted "Swamp Creature Cold Cast Resin Bust", and I suspect MONSTERS IN MOTION (where it is available for sale) didn't want to use the longish movie title on their heading. It measures 7.68" X 6.18" X 14.57" and sells for a reasonable 60 bucks. No further info is available. It's a pretty good likeness if you ask me.

FEARLESS VAMPIRE LOBBY CARDS + BONUS!

As a follow-up to yesterday's post, here is the lobby card set for Roman Polanski's THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS (aka DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES, aka YOUR TEETH IN MY NECK) from 1967.

This PLAYBOY pictorial created quite a splash (and a lot of bubbles, too) when it was published in March 1967. The photographs were taken by Roman Polanski while on the set of THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS. PARDON ME, BUT YOUR TEETH ARE IN MY NECK!

Roman Polanski wanted his 1967 comedy horror film titled DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES, but overlord executive producer Martin Ransohoff wanted the ridiculously long THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS, OR PARDON ME, BUT YOUR TEETH ARE IN MY NECK. Polanski also wanted the vivacious redhead Jill St. John to play Sarah Shagal, the innkeeper's daughter, but again Ransohoff demanded that he instead cast his new find and up-and-comer, a beautiful actress by the name of Sharon Tate. Polanski managed to thumb his nose at Ransohoff by having Tate wear a red wig provided by hairdresser Biddy Chrystal.

Every bit, if not more opulent than a Hammer horror film of the day, Polanski's film was gorgeously shot by cinematographer Douglas Slocombe in the snowbound location of the Dolomite mountains in Italy. Often cited as having a fairy tale-like quality, it tells the story of Professor Abronsius, a vampire researcher (Jack McGowran) and his oafish assistant Alfred (Polanski) who arrive in a small village and discover it is being preyed upon by vampires lead by Count Krolock (Ferdy Mayne). A romance blooms between Alfred and Sarah, but it is interrupted when the vampire makes off with her. Abronsius and Alfred must track down and destroy the monster before he turns Sarah into a vampire.

Ironically, the change of lead actresses led to Polanski and Tate's budding romance and they married on January 20, 1968. Their reception was at the London Playboy Club. One wonders how history would have played out if Jill St. John had been cast as Polanski intended . . .

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY HEAD?

Stephen King once wrote: "I recognize terror as the finest emotion and so I will try to terrorize the reader. But if I find that I cannot terrify, I will try to horrify, and if I find that I cannot horrify, I'll go for the gross-out. I'm not proud." It seems like plenty of horror filmmakers followed suit, but went straight for the gross out as this gallery of GIF's will attest.

Here you will see a collection of some the weirdest, sickest and yes, grossest monster heads ever concocted for the screen. My twisted sense of humor found most of them to be hilarious. I'll let you be the judge.
