GHOUL TALES NO. 1 (PART 1)

Stanley P. Morse founded Key Publications in 1951 and published comic books under no less than seven imprints. He tried a number of genres including crime, romance, war, Westerns and humor and published his first horror comic, MISTER MYSTERY (September 1951), followed by WEIRD TALES OF THE FUTURE (1952), WEIRD MYSTERIES (1952) and WEIRD CHILLS (1954).

When the Comics Code Authority was enacted in October 1954, Morse dropped his comics line and shifted to the emerging market of post-WWII men's adventure magazines. During that time he published 10 different titles and at one point out-sold magazine mogul Martin Goodman.

When that market began to fade, he fell back on comics, this time printing full-sized horror comic magazines like James Warren and later Myron Fass had done. He used the same approach as Fass did with associate Robert Farrell by reprinting his own inventory of pre-Code horror comic books.

This, the first issue of GHOUL TALES is cover dated November 1970. The cover is by Frank Carin (aka Frank Carino).
