WARREN'S EERIE NO. 5 (PART 1)

Jerry Grandenetti ghost-pencils another story for Joe Orlando (who gets sole credit) on "Vampire Slayer".

"Swamp God" is reprinted in CREEPY #142 with Uncle Creepy's image over Cousin Eerie.

Of further note is Carl Wessler, the scriptwriter for "Dr. Griswold's File!" in this issue. At first glance, the name Carroll O. Wessler (May 25, 1913 - April 9, 1989) may not sound familiar to readers, but he actually had a long and varied career in the field.

Wessler began his career working as an animator for the Fleischer Studios in the 1930s. While still there, he started working for the Ben Sangor Shop drawing funny animal comics. During this period he also produced work for Lev Gleason, Croyden Publications and Standard Comics. From 1950-1958, he was at Atlas Comics writing for their crime, horror and war titles. In addition, he wrote stories for EC Comics, including TALES FROM THE CRYPT, THE VAULT OF HORROR, WEIRD SCIENCE-FANTASY, CRIME SUSPENSTORIES and the New Direction titles.

In the 1960s, Wessler was writing scrips at Harvey, Charlton and DC, as well as Warren's CREEPY, EERIE and VAMPIRELLA. His last work was writing horror stories for Marvel and DC. It is estimated that Wessler wrote over 1,000 comic book stories over his career.
