SMOKIN' MONSTERS: BELA CONTEMPLATES BOW

In 1928, Bela Lugosi had a brief, two-month affair with Hollywood actress and man-eater, Clara Bow. Miss Bow was well-known for keeping a revolving door of lovers in her nest. Lugosi was one of them.

Not much is known about their fling, except for that it burned hot and died out just about as fast -- which was usually par for the course with Bow. Lugosi, however, appeared never to have forgotten her. Despite what must have prompted obvious protestations from his procession of wives, Bela kept a nude figure painting of Clara Bow in his possession until the day he died.

This image (ca. 1930)  shows Lugosi in his study with the infamous painting above him. Bela strikes a contemplative pose as he puffs on his pipe.
