Formed in 1959 and based in London, Fleetway Publications issued a number of comic books that were particularly popular in the 1980's and 90's when they added adventure horror and science-fiction titles to their line, especially 2000 A.D. and JUDGE DREDD. In 1995, they began an 8-issue series under the Leaf Publishing imprint titled after Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's full-length feature film, THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO! It was edited and written by comic book enthusiast Alan Fennell. The first story in the issue was an adaptation of the first THUNDERBIRDS TV episode, "Trapped in the Sky". It was presented in the photo-story format, similar to that of Warren's FAMOUS FEATURES but was captioned only, without word balloons or sound effects.
Included were illustrated strips of the Anderson's other TV shows (ex. FIREBALL XL5, STINGRAY), as well as additional popular Fleetway characters.
As a bonus, the first two issues included a 12-page Thunderbirds "Technical Manual" as seen in yesterday's post.

I fell in love with the darker Captain Scarlet when I chanced upon it as a young fellow. I rather liked Stingray as well. My ardor for the Thunderbirds was slow in quickening, but now I'm a robust fan.
