MONSTERS FROM THE OUTER LIMITS

"Each play must have a 'BEAR'. The BEAR is that one splendid, staggering, shuddering effect that induces awe or wonder or tolerable terror or even merely conversation or argument." - The Outer Limits Writer's Guide

Like THE TWILIGHT ZONE, THE OUTER LIMITS was a black and white TV show in the 1960's that explored the imperfections of man and the human spirit, albeit with a supernatural or paranormal twist. While TZ was underneath it all a drama series, TOL was decidedly a science fiction show. But lest you think TOL was without its monsters, think again. From the blob in the box in "Don't Open 'Til Doomsday!" to the Zanti Misfits, TOL often used weird and alien creatures to add scares to an episode.

In this retrospective from STARBURST (August 2018), writer Michael Coldwell discusses the show, its creators, and its monsters. Included is an interview with author David J. Show about his influences from THE OUTER LIMITS.
