JAMES BAMA'S DOC SAVAGE LITHOGRAPHS SET

We monster fans know full well of artist James Bama's uber-iconic images that he painted for Aurora's monster model kits back in the day. But, even more important -- I contest -- were the covers that he did for the Bantam series of Doc Savage novels. While Bama already had the Universal monster films from which to draw from, he took the words from Lester Dent's stories and gave us the quintessential image of the Man of Bronze. All others are pale bronze in comparison.

This set of signed lithographs are from the estate of the late comic artist Dave Stevens and are up for auction. Steve Holland, the model that Bama used for Doc, also signed the "Man of Bronze" print.

In my opinion, James Bama single-handedly raised the run-of-the-(pulp) mill -- but fun to read -- adventure stories into fine art!
