It's not hard to see why RUE MORGUE is consistently at the top of the heap when fans are voting for their favorite monster magazines and awards folks are passing out their accolades. And little wonder. Design-wise RUE MORGUE has most of the competition beat, claws down. The page layouts, lettering and graphics are really second to none. But, RUE MORGUE is a lot more than just monster magazine eye candy. In fact, it's easy to see when you start reading anything from a feature article to a DVD review that the writers are all top-notch, and I would have a hard time thinking that any one of them are slogging away at their computers just 'cause itsa job.
Now, I realize it's been a long time coming here at MONSTER MAGAZINE WORLD, but I just had to finally make some mention of the incredible achievement that is RUE MORGUE #100. Magazines are a lot like restaurants -- most don't last long. But, for a monster 'zine to make it to the centennial mark -- even with the bizarre exception of using 10 issues of MONSTER WORLD to pad the number for FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND -- is monumental.
If you haven't done so already I urge you to read MONSTER MAGAZINE WORLD'S first interview blog posts with Dave Alexander, the current editor-in-chief of RUE MORGUE. Dave will let you know all about the hard work, dedication, and pure love of the genre that go into making one of the most successful magazines of its type -- ever! So, now's your chance to use the "Search this Blob" widget on the sidebar and look up "Rue Morgue".
From the first page to the last, RUE MORGUE is both a work of art and a helluva read. You'd be doing yourself a favor by scoring a copy of this monster magazine gem and finding out just exactly what I mean. And, congratulations again to you Dave and the rest of the crew for a job well done and a remarkable accomplishment. Keep the blood running and the adrenalin pumping, guys!
Oh, I love Rue Morgue Magazine. I was a long-time reader and have a great number of their back issues in my collection, but unfortunately the magazine fell victim to the economy as most every magazine has. Meaning that as the page count shrunk, the cover price went up proportionally. Once it hit the (essentially) 10 dollar mark, I had to let it go. I hated to do it, but I'm feeling the financial crunch too, and cutbacks had to be made.
ReplyDeleteI still make it a point to pick up their annual Halloween issue, though, and I may have to check this one out as well. Kudos to them!
