Thanks to fellow Monsterologist Mike Scott over at the MONSTER MAGAZINES BlogSpot, we have a little more to say about the mysterious "Glossy Werewolf" autographed picture advertised in FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND #3. Mike unearthed a photo that could very well be THE photo. Since research has not turned anything else up, we are deducing that this is most likely the photo that was used in the ad. The character wearing the Topstone werewolf mask is none other than publisher James Warren himself, in what was surely one of the series of pics used in the photo shoot for FM #2. The card he is holding would be an ideal place to sign the "autograph". Of course, there's just no way of telling for sure unless somebody comes up with an original with the "Hollywood Werewolf" signature on it.
Also notice that Warren is wearing the Topstone "Monster Hands". One Topstone expert said there is only one known original example of the hands.
ReplyDeletethe only problem with all this is- that's NOT a werewolf!

True, but what does Topstone call it and does anyone have the ad drawing for it?
ReplyDeleteActually that mask probably isn't a Topstone - its likely from the Bayshore company - the same folks that made those 'monster hands' for sale in the Captain Company pages of Famous Monsters. Bayshore also made a cool 'Zombie' mask that was in a comic book ad from the era. Unfortunately little is known about this company. It would be fun to research it, however!
