Don Smeraldi, editor and publisher of SCARY MONSTERS and CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN magazines has announced that the two publications will no longer be distributed to retail outlets such as Barnes & Noble.
Citing economic reasons, Smeraldi is circling the wagons and limiting distribution through his MY MOVIE MONSTERS website and his store, Monsters on Main, located in Van Buren, Kansas.
I totally understand the reason behind his decision, but unfortunately this is just another example of the print magazine slowly going by way of the dodo.
NOW is the time to jump on the Monsterbus and support Don and his excellent endeavor to keep monster magazines alive. As a certain comic book personality was fond of saying: "'Nuff Said!".
The dodo went extinct due to the greed of sailors. In this case, it's the greed of retail chains.
ReplyDeleteHe was not selling enough inventory to make it worth his while. I'm afraid he might lose out on a lot of new or casual readers who might not otherwise know his magazines even exist. I'm sure retailers didn't make it easy for him in any event.
ReplyDeleteThat's how I got hold of my copies when I chanced upon them. The walls are closing in for certain on the old ways of doing things. It's a pity.
ReplyDeleteWhat's for certain is it's all uncertain. Physical media is ever so slowly becoming a thing of the past.
