Tarot Cards have come a long way since the ever-popular Rider-Waite deck was created in 1909 and Aleister Crowley's deck in 1943 (to be first published in 1969). You can find anything from the Angel Tarot to The Supernatural TV Series Tarot (!), and just about every topic in between.

Artist Chris Hoffman is following suit (no pun intended) with his KICKSTARTER project to produce a second, new and improved Horror Comic Book Tarot. A crazy idea? Just take a look at some of these card designs and they will show you that a lot of research and imagination went into the creation of this deck.

The Cards

We've learned a lot since the production of the previous version of the Horror Comic Tarot Deck. While we're proud of our achievement, Version 2 will be a marked improvement in quality. Our cards will be printed by Shuffled Ink on 330gsm cardstock,  with Shuffled Ink's Card Coating. Each box comes with 78 cards (Major and Minor Arcana).

The artwork was gathered from many different public-domain horror comic books from the 1940s and 50s. Each image was chosen for its beauty and reminder of the card's meaning. All of the cards have been reformatted to include a black border and several cards have had their artwork replaced with new images. We can't wait for you to see the new cards.

The Fool

Divinatory Meanings: Folly, mania, extravagance, intoxication, delirium, frenzy, bewrayment. 

Divinatory Meanings - Reversed: Negligence, absence, distribution, carelessness, apathy, nullity, vanity.

Death

Divinatory Meanings: End, mortality, destruction, corruption also, for a man, the loss of a benefactor for a woman, many contrarieties; for a maid, failure of marriage projects.

Divinatory Meanings - Reversed: Inertia, sleep, lethargy, petrifaction, somnambulism; hope destroyed.

The Tower

Divinatory Meanings: Misery, distress, indigence, adversity, calamity, disgrace, deception, ruin. It is a card in particular of unforeseen catastrophe.

Divinatory Meanings - Reversed: According to one account, the same in a lesser degree also oppression, imprisonment, tyranny.

The Lovers

Divinatory Meanings: Attraction, love, beauty, trials overcome.

Divinatory Meanings - Reversed: Failure, foolish designs. Another account speaks of marriage frustrated and contrarieties of all kinds.

The Devil

Divinatory Meanings: Ravage, violence, vehemence, extraordinary efforts, force, fatality; that which is predestined but is not for this reason evil.

Divinatory Meanings - Reversed: Evil fatality, weakness, pettiness, blindness.

The Hanged Man

Divinatory Meanings: Wisdom, circumspection, discernment, trials, sacrifice, intuition, divination, prophecy.
