VAMPUS NO. 13 EN ESPAÑOL

To celebrate this Friday the 13th weekend, today is posted a copy of VAMPUS #13 (a reprint of a reprint?). The issue date is September 1972 and the cover (portado en español) is the painting by Frank Frazetta from CREEPY #4. The publisher was Barcelona-based Ibero Mundial de Ediciones (I.M.D.E.) which later became Garbo Editorial in 1975. The first issue was published in September 1971 and it lasted for 77 issues, until 1978. It was aimed at an adult readership along with titles such as DOSSIER NEGRO and RUFUS, which also contained authorized Warren reprints (there was at least one country, Taiwan, that published unauthorized Warren stories).

VAMPUS #1.

The contents of the issue are retreads from CREEPY and EERIE. There is a fan page and it is original to the issue as it contained letters and fan art. Also original is a text article, "Terror in the Cinema". According to the cover, there was included a pull-out poster by Esteban Maroto that has been, ah, pulled out from the scan of this issue and it is missing. The back cover is a full-color ad for the Jack Davis-rendered giant Frankenstein Monster poster available through the publisher.

VAMPUS Annual (1 of 4).

As befitting a foreign publication, this issue of VAMPUS is, of course, in the Spanish language, so I'll leave it to WOM's Spanish-speaking readership to enjoy! At a minimum, this is a fine example of overseas horror history.
