Editor Robert Martin was a little premature. In his editorial for the first issue of Starlog's full-fledged monster magazine, he set about to describe how the independent horror films of the 80's were becoming a fading memory. There may have been a brief hiatus with so-called "indie" directors such as Cronenberg, Carpenter and Craven, but the kindling soon enough caught fire again and today we have had the evolution of horror reach the Academy Awards stage with the talent of Guillermo del Toro, an indie director with the only difference is having a larger wallet.
Not to be deterred, Martin sets out to give us a bloody feast of monsters, mutants and crazies; enough to gorge the palate of any fan. From the rotted face of Robert England's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA to director Joe Coleman's photo of him spewing blood on his wife, TC is a worthy competitor to FANGORIA's GOREZONE.
If you loved 80's horror, this 'zine should be right up your chemically-contaminated alley. And with FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND and FANGO alumnus W.R. Mohalley as Creative Director, the mag looks great, too.
