LUGOSI'S NUDE CLARA BOW PAINTING UP FOR AUCTION

The nude painting of Clara Bow that Bela Lugosi owned and displayed despite the protestations of his later wives until his death, has surfaced and is for sale. As with any historical artifact where information is scant, the painting, completed as a request from Lugosi to his artist/neighbor, Geza Kende (according to Gregory Mank on his web site), disappeared into the hands of various art dealees and collectors over the ensuing years.

Along with the famous Maltese Falcon statuette, an auction sponsored by Turner Classic Movies and to be conducted by Bonham's is scheduled for next month and includes the Clara Bow painting among its lots. The November 25th auction is shaping up to be one of the greatest sales of Hollywood memorabilia ever assembled.
