THE GREEN SLIME ARE HERE!

This is what you get when you team up the Italians, Americans and Japanese for a science-fiction monster film in 1968: THE GREEN SLIME. With a nod to Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds is Coming" tagline, the title portends something green, something slimy is coming to theaters. When we finally see what these alien creatures are and what they can do, it gives "I've bee slimed!" an entirely different meaning.

The plot is super simple and echoes many of its kind in science-fiction movies such as IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE and ALIEN. The story is explained in the article from the September 1969 issue of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND #57 below.

  1. That song sounds like a lost Bond theme.

  2. As a kid at the time, this was just a great Saturday night movie at our little small town theater. Recognizable actors, cool laser rifles, lots of slime. I remember the promotional item that they gave out at the showing; a small metal button, yellow with green lettering. Pretty sure it said "The Green Slime Are Coming".

  3. Steve: Maybe they'll use it on the new one. It'll probably deserve it.

  4. RickH: I'm glad you have a nice memory of it. As we get older, it's good to look back every once in a while and remember these types of fun things things from our younger age.
