DICK SMITH'S MONSTER MAKE-UP HANDBOOK (PART 1)

I'm in a monster makeup kinda mood and when I realized that I have neglected to share this vintage publication on this blog for all these years, I'll take care of that in the next two days.

What we've got here is a classic from Warren Publishing: The DO-IT-YOURSELF MONSTER MAKE-UP HANDBOOK by the master himself, Dick Smith. I coveted this storehouse of information and spent hours poring through it, attempting many of the techniques shown in very easy to follow instructions. It's really responsible for my burgeoning interest in makeup that led to my years-long fascination with these artists who created some of the world's most memorable monsters, not the least of who was Jack P. Pierce.

From vampires, to werewolves, to martians and everything else in between, this guide has got it. Learn about how to apply hair and beards, create "weird" skin textures and other techniques using materials and chemicals that would be way out-of-bounds for youngster these days.

This really cool mag is one of those precious moments in time when Monster Kids were unfettered in unleashing their creativity in the pursuit of their monster dreams. As Mr. Smith says in his introduction, "Now You Can Be A Famous Monster!"
