The last thing that this exceptional filmmaker did was Netflix's GUILLERMO DEL TORO'S CABINET OF CURIOSITIES in 2022. Personally, I thought the eight stories in the anthologies series were a tad uneven, but it was the handful of real spine-tinglers that more than made up for it.
So, what has Mr. del Toro been up to lately? Oh, not much, just his adaptation of Mary Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN.
VANITY FAIR recently released an exclusive sneak peek at Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac) in his lab with his creation (Jacob Elordi) laid out behind him.
Reportedly, del Toro has spent a good long while on developing the story where Victor “tampers with the natural order by turning dead tissue into a new being”. Now in post-production, the film was shot in Aberdeen, Scotland.
“Gothic romance was born partially out of the fascination with ruins,” del Toro explained. “Sometimes they’re more beautiful than the building complete because it’s the clash of creation and destruction.”
Scheduled for release in 2025, FRANKENSTEIN also stars Charles Dance, Burn Gorman, Ralph Ineson, David Bradley, Christan Convery, Lars Mikkelsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Lauren Collins, Felix Kammerer, Joachim Fjelstrup, Stuart Hughes, Roberto Campanella, Mark Wilkinson, and Jason Alan Staines.
