What better way to end the year here at WORLD OF MONSTERS than sharing another issue of the monster magazine that started it all. If you remember it was this and other monster mags that inspired me to begin the first version of this blog, MONSTER MAGAZINE WORLD, way back in 2010.
Fresh off his comic strip adaptation of Universal's THE MUMMY with Wallace Wood in MONSTER WORLD #1 and his trio of monster movie fumetti adaptations (CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN/HORROR OF DRACULA, HORROR OF PARTY BEACH, THE MOLE PEOPLE), Russ Jones paints a realistic likeness of Bela Lugosi as Dracula for the cover.
The big feature in this issue is the close-up photo of Bela Lugosi's Dracula ring which Forry faithfully wore throughout the years. Lots more monster goodness awaits in this classic issue -- hey, wait a minute -- aren't they all classic?
I love black and white monster magazines, just as I love black and white monster movies. Color is fantastic and necessary in many instances, but not all and horror films are one of those instances in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI'm on board with that. They may just be a nostalgic mental imprint, but for reasons I can't explain I think they're best suited for B&W. For instance, I can't see Night of the Living Dead or Carnival of Souls in color.
