HOOKED!

It's not hard to see that illegal drugs are a major cause of crime, death and misery. Romanticized since the 1800's mainly through the literature of the Decadents, very few chronic users escape the woes of addiction.

One of the ways to help kick the habit in modern times is the dispensing of methadone, a synthetic opioid used to get the user off the "real stuff". Combined with medical care and counseling, the idea is to help addicts get through withdrawal symptoms easier than the "cold turkey" method, which is grueling and painful.

Knowing that many addicts were minors, this comic was distributed by the New York City methadone clinics in 1967 as an educational supplement to treatment.

In the meantime, the pathetic so-called "war on drugs" goes ever on.
