This is the first issue of WITCHES' TALES, another entry in the Eerie Publications horror comic magazine line. The title follows the same format as the others by resurrecting 1950's pre-code horror comics, increasing the pages from comic book to magazine size, throwing on a gruesome, luridly-colored cover and touch up some of the interior pages with a bit of extra gore.

The formula worked as Eerie Pubs published a slew of these titles. Initially dismissed by their crudeness, they are now highly collectible!

  1. We really enjoyed these comic stories as a kid and even still have (nearly 50 years old) comic books with the use of images of Gore (and lots of bloody images) ... we still have some issues of Witches Tales in my collection....
... Creepy and Eerie tended to tone-down the "gore" in their comics to only a panel or two depicting such..
Very enjoyable post, good Sir !

  2. Yes, you could say that Eerie PUbs were on the other side of the scales from Warren. I remember being repulsed by the lurid covers back when they were being sold on newsstands. I was firmly in the Warren camp, but I'm making up for it now! Thanks for visiting, Good Doctor.
