WHAT AN EXCELLENT WEEKEND FOR AN EXORCISM (PART 1)

CINEFANTASTIQUE
Vol. 3 No. 2
Spring 1974
Publisher and Editor: Frederick S. Clarke
Cover: David L. Carson
Pages: 48
Cover price: $2.00

When THE EXORCIST exploded on the screen in theaters, the audience had no idea what to expect, even after the novel had been out and read by millions. The shock and surprise has resonated down through screen history ever since. I saw the film during its initial run and can testify that all the hype surrounding it was not fake news. People were scared of this thing, but the fear ran far deeper than just another weekend monster movie thrill ride. For many, it shook us to the core of our beliefs.

This issue of CINEFANTASTIQUE includes a review of THE EXORCIST that is thoughtful and accurate and reflects the feeling of the movie only just being recently released. Today's critiques and retrospectives cannot replicate the contemporaneous sentiment of this report.

Also included in this issue is a long interview with the late great author and screenwriter, Richard Matheson, a discussion with producer Charles H. Schneer about THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD, a look back at I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE, and reviews of Dan Curtis' production of DRACULA, THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE, VAMPIRA, WESTWORLD, Amicus films and more.
