NATIONAL LAMPOON'S HORROR SPECIAL (PART 1)

NATIONAL LAMPOON
Vol. 1 No. 20
November 1971
National Lampoon, Inc.
Publisher: Leonard Mogel
Editor: Douglas C. Kenney (Michael O'Donaghue, Guest Editor)
Cover: Gahan Wilson
Pages: 84
Cover price: 75 cents

Subtitled "The Humor Magazine", NATIONAL LAMPOON got its start as a spin-off of the HARVARD LAMPOON, the college's long-running review of wit and satire. NL would continue the legacy, only with an intended national audience.

NL's contents was a mix of spoof, satire and parody and set itself apart from its more outright zany brethren, MAD, CRACKED and SICK with a sophisticated flair that was highly influential at the time.

Many of the issues were "themed". This was a special "Horror Issue" and contains some brilliant work such as "The Science Fiction Horror Movie Pocket Computer", by Gahan Wilson,  "The Disrespectful Summons", illustrated verse by Edward Gorey, a hilarious spoof of a medical catalog, "Dr. Jekyll's Surgical Supply Catalog" by Doug Kenney, a gender-bending transvestite comic story, "Dragula", illustrated by Frank Frazetta and Neal Adams, and tons more.

Sink your party store teeth into this amusing and entertaining humor mag!
