Besides Cal Beck's CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN, Blaisdell and Burns' FANTASTIC MONSTERS OF THE FILMS was the only magazine in the 60s that gave Warren's FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND a run at "Best Monster Magazine". But CoF suffered from a wildly erratic publishing schedule and FMoF lacked sufficient distribution. FM had the most regular publishing schedule (despite the proliferation of reprints used when deadlines loomed) and you could find it at nearly every outlet that carried magazines for kids. FMoF's strong point was its use of color and page tints and the interesting content. With a little more in-depth writing, it coulda' been a real contenda'.
