ART OF THE SHRUNKEN HEAD

"Shrunken Heads" is a solo exhibition of works by Carlos Enriquez Gonzalez. The show opens on Saturday, May 14th with a reception from 6-9PM, and the contributions will remain on display until June 3rd, 2016. The exhibition is at The Clutter Gallery, 163 Main Street, Beacon, NY 12508. Handmade in fiberglass, beads and cord, and painted with a high gloss lacquer enamel paint, each one-of-a-kind piece measures about 10" X 5" X 5.5" and sells for $2,500.

The shrunken head, or "tsantsa" in its native tongue, is a war trophy and religious object and has a long history of fascination by the world outside the Amazon jungle. These stylized objects d' art are the synthesis between the heads as freaky pop culture novelty and primitive beauty. For those looking for a unique Valentine's Day present for their special someone, nothing says "I Love You" like a tsantsa!
