I so wanted Monsterland to be great. And the first issues were great. And at some point, Forry left or was disassoicated and it lost it's magic. And then it went away. I think Scary Monsters is the closest to the classic Forry Famous Monsters these days, but it is all relative.
I think part of the problem was that the Star Wars and other sci-fi blockbusters during this time lured fans away from the classic monsters that Forry specialized in. I agree, Scary Monsters is currently the best 'zine that emulates the "tone" of FM. Freaky Monsters is probably the best at recreating the "look" of FM. Thankfully, you're still a monster magazine reader!
