Monster magazine fans were heartbroken when James Warren gave up on FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND due to illness with its 191st issue in 1983. Editor Forrest J Ackerman had resigned in the meantime because of the "disorganized" situation with the publishing company. However, it didn't take long for FJA to be courted to helm another title.
Hal Shuster of New Media Publishing came knocking and Ackerman answered. Thus was born the next magazine in the FM legacy, MONSTERLAND.
