Norma Jeane Baker was only nineteen years old when the Transylvanian-born photographer, Andre de Dienes, met her through a model booking agency. In the ensuing years, Dienes took hundreds of photographs of Norma Jeane, including later when she changed her name to Marilyn Monroe.
Dienes made large sums of money from Marilyn's photographs, and like his vampiric birthplace never offered her any payment or percentage for them. While this may have been a standard practice among photographers, it still seems a bit parsimonious, and through the lens of today's world it is almost certain that one would consider the subjects "victimized".
Miss Monroe went on to be one of the most recognizable personalities and popular culture icons in the world. These photos of her at age nineteen show her at her most pensive and innocent on the famed Malibu Beach in California, and are as haunting as they are beautiful. Included are shots of her in North Hollywood and her home in Brentwood.
