Dubbed "an exploitation natural" by the movie industry mag, FILM BULLETIN (29 December 1941), Universal's THE WOLF MAN made a cool million after its release on the 12 December 1941. The accompanying review reports that the film is "made to order for thrill fans", adding, "an eerie quality pervades the entire film and the chilling climax is guaranteed to make the average patron shudder."
No mention of Jack Pierce, the talented makeup artist behind the monster, but the review does state, "(Chaney Jr.'s) werewolf characterization is an effective makeup feat." It would be Pierce's last major monster makeup creation for Universal.
