James Whale was just warming up when he directed Universal's adaptation of Mary Shelly's FRANKENSTEIN in 1931. Just a few years later, with his directorial chops further honed, he chose to film the sequel, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN.
Regarded by many -- including yours truly -- as the near-perfect horror film, BoF has withstood the test of time for its expertly crafted combination of horror, humor and visual atmosphere.
The movie herald shown today is an original from the 1935 film and is considered rare. Currently up for auction, this particular version of the herald has not been up for sale in a dozen years. The large-size publication opens into a spectacular spread promoting the movie.
The Bride of Frankenstein (Universal, 1935). Folded, Very Fine-. Herald (Folded: 7" X 9.75" & Unfolded: 14" X 9.75").
Collectors may note that there were two different printings of the film's herald with their blue and brown colors reversed, but both versions are considered to be from the original release.
Auction estimate: $1,000 - $2,000.
