GORGO MODEL KIT GETS A MAKEOVER

Monster models have been customized by the unlimited imagination of kit builders ever since they were introduced in the 1960's by Aurora Plastics. Aurora released two customizing kits during the years they produced their movie monster kits. Even FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND got in the act when they partnered up with Aurora and Universal Pictures for the first-ever Monster Model Customizing Contest. My entry was The Mummy, complete with pieces of torn t-shirt for wrappings that had been dipped in dirty paint brush cleaning water.

In this April, 2019 issue of FINE SCALE MODELER, model-maker Jeff Pollizzotto shows how he customized his Gorgo kit from Monarch using copper pipe, styrene and Woodland Water Effects. He also mentions the colors that he choose to paint the various assemblies.

An astute observation that Pollizzotto makes is that, according to the scale, the figure would not be Gorgo himself, but his mother, Orga, that shows up at the end of the film!

A fine job, Jeff!
