DELL COMICS' TALES FROM THE TOMB NO. 1 (PART 1)
TALES FROM THE TOMB
No. 1 (One shot)
October 1962
Dell Publishing Company, Inc.
Editor: L.B. Cole
Cover: L.B. Cole?
Writer: John Stanley, others?
Artists: Tony Tallarico, Frank Springer, George Evans?
Pages: 84
Cover price: 25 cents
This Dell Comics Giant has attained somewhat of a legendary status, due in large part to scripting by John Stanley of Little Lulu and Melvin Monster fame. According to the Grand Comics Database, there are two confirmed entries by Stanley ("Know Thyself..." and "The Interview"), the others being speculative.
Another controversy surrounds the cover creator. Most sources cite editor L.B. Cole with the striking image, but one source offers up a compelling argument that it is actually by John Schoenherr (click HERE for the story).
In any event, the stories in this one-shot horror book from Dell are creepy and well worth the read, even without the Stanley influence.

These tales were great, pretty chilling for post code tales.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post!
Spooked the bejeezus outta me when I was a youngster.
ReplyDelete"Turnabout" is one of the moodiest pieces I've ever seen in comics. Masterful.
