To promote their stars (and to show off who they thought had the best), movie studios in the 1920's printed posters of popular film personalities to be shown in the lobbies of theaters.
MGM, who claimed they had "more stars than there are in the heavens", was no different. This 22" x 28" portrait of Lon Chaney is a prime example, and is most likely from his role in THE BLACK BIRD (1926). This was also a popular image used by the movie fan magazines of the time. Now at auction, the estimate for this item $800 - $1,600.
