The famous comedian, Jerry Lewis is an institution. For years he entertained audiences with his side-splitting madcap humor on TV and in films. He was so popular, that at one time, DC Comics published a comic based on him. For an unbelievable 84 issues, THE ADVENTURES OF JERRY LEWIS lasted from 1957-1971. He was even featured in the Oct.-Nov. issue of SUPER DC GIANT (#S-19), a 68-page extravaganza of humor that was uniquely Lewis. Written by Arnold Drake and illustrated by Bob Oskner (with an "Art Messterpiece" by none other than Neal Adams), the story, "Scared Silly", featured all types of our favorite monsters, and was just right for the Halloween season.
I'd love to see a softcover collection of these monster stories from Jerry Lewis and Bob Hope and elsewhere. Stanley and his Monster also deserves a nifty trade paperback. Bob Oksner is an underrated artist. His good girl art is among the very best.
ReplyDeleteAgreed on all counts, but I fear they will unlikely happen. As far as GGA and cartoonists, Dan DeCarlo was pretty good, too. More Stanley coming up at WOM!
