GHOST STORIES INDEX

The first issue of the pulp magazine, GHOST STORIES was published in July, 1926 by Bernarr MacFadden and ran for a healthy 64 issues. It featured traditional ghost stories, as well as "true" tales of the paranormal and were usually accompanied by (retouched) photographs.

Authors included Arthur Conan Doyle (well known for his interest in the spiritual), H.G. Wells, Charles Dickens and Robert E. Howard. Notably, Agatha Christie's first story published in the U.S., "The Woman Who Stole a Ghost", appeared in the November, 1926 issue.

In 1930, the magazine was sold to Harold Hersey's Good Story Magazine Company, but by that time its popularity was waning. The last issue was published in December, 1931.

Shown here is a special issue covering GHOST STORIES by Opar Press in May, 1973. The article was written by Sam Moskowitz and the index was compiled by James R. Seiger. It includes the Robert E. Howard story, "The Apparition in the Prize Ring", writing under the name John Taverel. While crudely assembled, this pamphlet offers a valuable resource to fans of both ghost stories and pulps.
