A common image for covers of gothic romance books was the ubiquitous frightened woman shown running away from a sinister-looking house or castle. We can see by these images that nothing good was going on here. The atmospheric paintings were intended to attract the reader, and attract they did, as gothic mystery and romance books have been selling well for years. One of the artists, Vic Prezio, also worked for Warren.
I've collected a number of images from these books and share them with you today, including the one above that looks like the woman is running away from the Addams Family house!
