After seeing THE EXORCIST during its initial run, I was always on the lookout for more about the movie, of which there was plenty. The film caused a worldwide sensation and the media seemed itself possessed in its coverage. Virtually every monster magazine still being published in 1974 paid homage in some fashion, and CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN was no exception.

Under a hideous painted cover by Bhob Stewart, this issue of CoF devotes 13 pages to THE EXORCIST, including an interview with director William Friedkin. Leading off however, is coverage of another movie monstrosity -- considerably less sophisticated -- titled, THE MUTATIONS (aka THE FREAKMAKER).

The rather weird melange of contents includes a feature on the Price/Cushing (or Cushing/Price if you reside on the other side of the pond) Amicus production, MADHOUSE. Also appearing in the film are Robert (Count Yorga) Quarry, Adrienne (Devil Girl From Mars) Corri, and Linda (Blood on Satan's Claw) Hayden. Also covered is one of my favorite 70's horror films, THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE, the odd Sean Connery sci-fi flick that could have only been made in the 70's, ZARDOZ and an interview with composer Miklos Rosza that would have been more coherent in the previous issue with THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD feature. Rounding out (pun intended) this makeshift issue of CoF is the Slaymate of the Month, Ingrid Pitt, who is shown in a very revealing black negligee and naked in a free-standing tub. Okay, time to dive in to this issue!
