I AM CURIOUS. . . YELLOW WALLPAPER

It seems highly unlikely to see a highly regarded vintage ghost story published in all places, a men's magazine. Even stranger, the story, "The Yellow Wallpaper" (first published in 1892) by American author Charlotte Perkins Gilman, is often cited as an example of early feminist literature -- although I'm sure this was lost on the editors of EVE magazine when they published it in their first issue, dated July 1962. The magazine's contents was definitely female-centered, but it was far from feminist-centered -- for obvious reasons.

Gilman's story of a woman experiencing a slow burn mental breakdown in a house where the wallpaper seems to be alive with the ghost of a former insane woman, has been anthologized numerous times over the years, and for good reason -- it's an excellent story.

The photos in this men's 'zine are pretty tame; as a matter of fact, the whole magazine seems pretty tame. Maybe that was the point -- showing Eve's softer instead of seamier side?
