This year marks the 50th anniversary of the release of MAD MONSTER PARTY?, the very entertaining and very unique Rankin/Bass film that uses puppets to tell the charming story of the Karloff-inspired Dr. Frankenstein who is planning his retirement and assembles a gang of monsters to choose his successor.
The production staff includes many notables, including Frank Frazetta who designed the film's poster and other promotional graphics, MAD magazine's Harvey Kurtzman, who co-wrote the script (from the story by producer Arthur Rankin), Jack Davis, who designed the puppets, and voices by Boris Karloff and Phyllis Diller.
The movie was released in March, 1967, and following in September, Dell Comics published a comic book tie-in which is presented here today. The book is edited and was possibly written by Don Arneson, who wrote the scripts for many of the DARK SHADOWS comics. Since then, MAD MONSTER PARTY? has rightly become a true classic film for kids of all ages!
