JOSH KIRBY ORIGINAL WEREWOLF ART
Ronald William "Josh" Kirby (27 November 1928 – 23 October 2001) was a commercial artist born outside Liverpool in Waterloo, Lancashire, U.K. In the span of his 60-year career, he is best known as the cover artist for Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" novels, and many of science fiction's most acclaimed book cover illustrations.
Kirby worked in oils, acrylics, gouache, or watercolor, and often used a combination of two or more media to achieve his desired effect. His assignments included creating film posters for THE BEASTMASTER, KRULL, and numerous others.
Kirby was known for his attention to detail for the subjects he painted. He would often read the book first and then create the image for the cover. In the subject presented today he either didn't have time to read the book first or decided to deviate from his usual practice, as there is no werewolf that shows up in any of the stories.
The book is from the 1972 Macmillan "13th Pan Book of Horror Stories" series of paperbacks. The image size is 9.5" x 12" and it is rendered in mixed media.
