Barbara Leigh has always been my favorite "live" Vampirella. To me, she looks as close to Gonzalez' illustrations of the vampiress from Drakulon as anyone else. I had seen her with Rock Hudson and Angie Dickinson in 1971's PRETTY MAIDS ALL IN A ROW, and now here she was, a few years later, being signed for a multi-picture deal by Hammer Films, the first of which was to be VAMPIRELLA.
Of course, this great idea would collapse with nothing left to show for the character on screen but a lame 1976 straight-to-video catastrophe directed by exploitation filmmaker Jim Wynorski and starring Talisa Soto and The Who's Roger Daltrey (!).
In this issue of FEMME FATALES, Miss Leigh's very interesting career is revisited and she talks about her then (and still current) convention circuit as the vamp from another planet. Also included is an article on another Hammer Glamour star, Valerie Leon, a reminisce by Julie Strain, coverage -- or rather, un-coverage -- of Shauna O'Brien's "erotic thriller" films, and much more in this above average issue.
