I distinctly remember the billboard announcing "The Birds is Coming!" that was posted near the theater where it was showing near me. Radio ads were also playing regularly on local radio, and I dare say Hitchcock's media campaign worked despite there being no social media to broadcast the advertising, unbidden to the entire world. And, everybody was wondering what this seemingly grammatical error was all about. Well, we sure found out, didn't we?
The story behind the making of THE BIRDS is the lead feature in Frederick S. Clarke's Fall 1990 issue of his excellent magazine, CINEFANTASTIQUE. Also covered are articles on RESURRECTION starring Ellen Burstyn, Carl Sagan's COSMOS, the laughable Barbarella rip-off, GALAXINA (starring Dorothy Stratton, the ill-fated Playboy Playmate of the Year) and THE MONSTER CLUB, a sort of monster musical based on R. Chetwind Hayes' novel of the same name.
