Preceding DRACULA is this screwy "re-imagining" of Frankenstein. Once again, Dell roped in D.J. Arneson to write the scripts and Bill Fraccio and Tony Tallarico to supply the art. The standout in this comic is Ben Oda's imaginative titles and stalwart lettering. Nevertheless, by all accounts FRANKENSTEIN belongs as a solid entry in Weird Comics Week!

I actually enjoy this strange version of Frankenstein. It's wildly stupid but I'm a fan. What's that say about me?
ReplyDeleteWhy, I'd say you're a person of above-average intellect and sophisticated taste!
ReplyDeleteI had an issue of this as a kid. I always wondered what was up with the green head.
ReplyDelete"No man knows who they are, Frank. They only know what they think they are. You must still find that out for yourself."
ReplyDeleteSometimes truth and philosophy can be found hidden in the pages of comic books.
RickH: It's probably a reference to way the Frankenstein Monster's head was typically colored for the comics' four-color process (Jack Pierce's original makeup was gray-green so it photographed as a "dead pallor" under the then-current lighting and film stock).
ReplyDeleteJMR777: Quite poignant for a non-Marvel super-hero comic book!
