I get why they did it, but when Marvel moved Frankenstein to the modern day those stories took a real nosedive. They were too much like other stories of the time. The period stuff was distinctive.
Same could be said about the "modern" Frankenstein movies, too. Some stories are just more suitable in a Gothic setting and atmosphere.
