INVASION EARTH!

In the 1950's, the Cold War had begun, flying saucers had been spotted, and a lot of people thought we were in deep shit and ready to die any day. The paranoia born from these events led to their exploitation through movies. What could be more frightening than the thought of the entire earth being wiped out by aliens or disasters? Audience couldn't wait to see what might happen and flocked to their local drive-ins and cinemas.

This collection of movie posters illustrates how far Hollywood would go to scare the pants off theater goers during this period. "Thank God it's only a motion picture!"

All great posters! Sadly not all great movies. Some of these are really terrible, and some are just plain goofy fun. My favorite in this listing is 5 Million Years to Earth. But it's a contest.

Agreed. I tried to get through "The Day The World Ended" on TV a couple nights ago and have to say that some of the commercials were more entertaining than the movie! My fave from this batch is "War of the Worlds".
