TOPSTONE FANTASY MASKS
I came across this photo of what is most likely a picture of an explorer from late late 1800's or early 1900's who is posing with what appears to be a wall of trophy kills from some wild and exotic island somewhere in the Pacific.
I couldn't help but to think what these heads might have looked like as a retail display of rubber Topstone masks!

THE NIGHT OF THE GRIZZLY (DELL COMICS)

October 1966
Dell Publishing Company

For my money, the most gut-wrenching movie about a grizzly bear with a taste for human flesh is 1997's THE EDGE. But back in 1966, we had Paramount's THE NIGHT OF THE GRIZZLY. Starring cowboy hunk Clint "Cheyenne" Walker, Martha Hyer, the great Jack Elam, Keenan Wynn and Ron "Tarzan" Ely, it's the story of a retired lawman Jim Cole (Walker) who is looking forward to a less-dangerous life on an inherited piece of land in Wyoming. He no sooner gets settled with his family than a rogue grizzly begins to terrorize them. Along with the subplot of somebody else wanting the land that Cole is on and you have yourself a thrilling story.
Dell Comics published the comic book adaptation of THE NIGHT OF THE GRIZZLY to coincide with the release of the movie. Pencils and inks are by Jack Sparling, who also did some work for Warren.

ED GEIN'S WEIRD TRIPS
WEIRD TRIPS
Vol. 1 No. 2
May 1978
Kitchen Sink/Krupp Comic Works
Editor and Publisher: Denis Kitchen
Cover: Bill Stout
Pages: 36
Cover price: $1.00
Yesterday's post was Dave Schreiner's article, "Ed Gein and the Left Hand of God", excerpted from DEATH RATTLE's October 1986 issue. Today's post from WEIRD TRIPS #2 is the same article, but predates yesterday's post by eight years, and as far as I can tell, is the first time it was published. It also contains several illustrations by Peter Poplaski that were not included in DEATH RATTLE. A story as good as this and as well-written, deserves to be reprinted! Also, don't miss the interview with Robert Anton Wilson, author, mystic, and all-around kookster.
