Let's get this out of the way: BLADE RUNNER is one helluva movie. Visually stunning, it is one of the best science fiction films ever made, and I believe my opinion is shared with a lot of other people.
The following article from the Canadian film magazine TRIBUTE (Summer 1982) offers capsule overviews of the cast, crew and special effects that went into the making of the movie.
One more thing: I defy you to find the acronym CGI for any of the visual effects used in the making of this modern classic. Douglas Trumbull and his crew instead relied on old-school, practical effects techniques such as miniatures, matte paintings and chromakey (green screen). Take that, Autodesk Maya!
NOTE: I've left in a few of the ads so you'd get a sense of the time period.

Blade Runner is actually set in 2019, not 2020, but the wrong date may have appeared in early publicity material. Similarly, Revenge of the Jedi had become Return by the time it hit screens, although the initial title appeared in some pre-release advertising.
ReplyDeleteI caught that, too, and you could be right. Being published in Canada, maybe they were figuring in a different time zone? Ha! Ha!
